View our for in-depth information on course work for the major.
Mills is home to a thriving community of scientists who embrace the spirit of experimentation and inquiry. Under the guidance of supportive faculty, you’ll pose original research questions, use sophisticated lab equipment, and powerfully communicate research findings through papers and presentations. The Betty Irene Moore Natural Sciences Building, awarded the highest rating in environmental design and construction, provides students and faculty with classrooms, meeting spaces, and labs that encourage collaboration. Many students gain hands-on experience at field sites in the San Francisco Bay Area, measuring levels of metals in local reservoirs, studying endangered plants, and analyzing ground squirrel behavior. You’ll also have the opportunity to pursue internships with organizations and universities in the area.
Environmental science graduates make an impact as scientists in industrial and government laboratories and private consulting firms. Many have entered graduate programs in ecology, environmental studies, toxicology, and related fields.
